How to tie Paternoster or Apollo Rig

There are some basic rigs that you should master before you start fishing, and one of them is the paternoster or apollo rig.

Paternoster or Apollo Rig
One of the most popular rig; can be used anywhere from pond fishing to offshore bottom fishing.
Depending on the location, baits such as live prawn or fish meat is attached to the hooks mostly for saltwater fishing and bread, cricket or worm is attached to the hook for freshwater fishing.

A step-by-step demonstration of how to tie an Apollo Rig:

*2 or more large dropper loops can be tied along the leader with ends cut and tied with hooks to increase chance of catching a fish or to allow usage of different baits on a single rig.

Key Tips when Creating Rigs

  • Make sure knot is pulled as tightly as possible; consider using a pair of pliers.
  • Lubricate knots with saliva or water when pulling them tight.
  • Cut away unwanted ends close to the knots.
  • The more you do the better you’ll get, so try it!
