More about the SC Pro Team Members
Ricky (Team Manager)
Ricky Tan is a sales advisor at Toyota (Malaysia). Since young, he has been fishing with his father, but started going competitive about eight years ago. Ricky has participated in numerous competitions, including the Spratly Islands Challange 2010 (where he got fifth place) and the Malaysia Lure Trophy Challange 2009.
Always looking to try new fishing methods, Ricky doesn’t classify himself as any particular type of angler. He remembers the excellent catch at Spratly Islands many years back when he reeled in a 25 kg Giant Trevally, but is now looking forward to the next top fishing location.
Ah Yoong
Liau Kim Yoong, or more affectionately known as Ah Yoong, is the manager of Ah Fatt Kelong, located near Pulau Sibu, Johor, Malaysia. With over 20 years of fishing experience, Ah Yoong prefers saltwater fishing.
Ah Yoong’s most memorable catch has to be the first sailfish that he caught during his first offshore fishing trip, which was entirely unexpected. To date he has visited many top fishing locations, including Spratly Islands, Indian Ocean and Burma Banks.
Open to all types of fishing, Ah Yoong finds that fishing is a sport that helps him to develop his patience. He particularly enjoyed the Spratly Islands Challenge in 2010, where he had the opportunity to interact with fellow anglers and work as part of the SC Pro Team to get the best fishing results.
JC
Koh Jee Chek, also known as JC, is an IT consultant, specialising in server and network infrastructure. He has more than 10 years of saltwater fishing experience, with five years dedicated to luring. JC has attended several fishing competitions, including the Fish Tales Kenyir Challenge 2009, Fish Tales Rompin Challenge 2009.
JC sees fishing as a way for him to develop patience and makes use of opportunities to meet more fishing buddies. He finds that there is more improvement when it comes to conservation of fishing stocks, and encourages fellow anglers to practice Catch and Release too.
To date, JC considers the Burma Banks in Myanmar as one of his most memorable fishing locations; his most impressive catch was a shark that exceeded 100 kg.
Eddie
Eddie Soh is a fishing rod designer and builder, as well as the moderator for fishing forum, www.m1angling.com. Eddie has been fishing since the young age of eight, visiting several top fishing locations including Spratly Isalands, Darwin, Adelaide, Burma Bank, and the Indian Ocean. He has an inclination towards big-game fishing and lure fishing.
Eddie considers the 8-feet Bronze Whaler Shark off Henley Jetty in Adelaide some 10 years back as his most exciting fishing experience. It was totally different from catching a shark on a boat, and with the help of other experienced anglers, he was able to work the shark towards the beach, passing his rod over hundreds of lamp posts while battling with it for nearly an hour.
When Eddie is out on the water, he fishes when he feels like it. To him, fishing is an activity for him to refresh himself from daily mundanes. He believes that “a bad day’s fishing is still better than a good day’s work.”
Horace
Horace Tan serves as a Relationship Manager at the Commercial Banking – Emerging Corporates Division at ANZ Bank Singapore. He has been fishing for more than 6 years, familiar with techniques such as jigging, popping and light offshore. To date, Horace’s most memorable catch was a 6-lb Queensland Grouper on 10lb setup in Singapore waters.
Horace finds that fishing teaches you to be patient, to persevere, to be thankful. From this activity, he has learnt to appreciate that the simple joys of life come from your efforts to appreciate what the aquatic world can give you.
Dennis
Dennis Lim is one of the sales representatives serving at Siow Chiang Malaysia. A fishing veteran with more than 25 years of experience, Dennis likes offshore fishing and lure fishing. He has attended many fishing events, including Malaysia Lure Fishing Cup 2009, Rompin International Cup 2009 and Kenyir International Cup 2010, where he got 2nd place. He is also a regular patron of the Johor-Ah Fatt Fishing Competition, never failing to attend once since 2006.
Dennis has been to plenty of top fishing locations, including Spratly Islands, Sabah, Indian Ocean, Temenggor, Royal Belum, Rompin and Endau. His most memorable catch is the Black Bass, whom he considers to be the world’s most powerful river fish.
Dennis believes that all fishing trips are exciting, regardless of location, time, date or even the type of catch, because for him, it is the process of fishing that makes the activity enjoyable.
